Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME)
Materials are essential to the construction of any engineering structure, from the smallest integrated circuit to the largest bridge. In almost every technology, the performance, reliability, or cost is determined by the materials used. As a result, the drive to develop new materials and processes (or to improve existing ones) makes Materials and Metallurgical Engineering one of the most important and dynamic engineering disciplines. The field is concerned with the design, manufacture, and use of all classes of materials (including metals, ceramics, semiconductors, polymers, and biomaterials), and with energy, environmental, health, economic, and manufacturing issues relating to materials. The very nature of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering means that it cuts across other disciplines.
The dominant theme of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering is that the relationships among the structure, properties, processing, and performance of materials are crucial to their function in engineering systems. All engineering products utilize materials. The steel of automobiles, building structures, the materials for aircrafts and ocean-going vessels, the concrete of highways and the less apparent but equally important materials of electronic circuits, the carbide bits on oil- well drills etc., are all engineering materials. Each of these products requires materials with specific characteristics such that the material can be processed into the final products satisfactorily and economically and the products will behave appropriately in service. Materials and their properties are important design considerations in many engineering projects. In fact, in many cases the success of major new technologies hinges critically upon new and unforeseen demands on materials performances.
Metallurgical Engineering is the study of the production, properties and uses of metals and alloys. It had been traditionally offered by many universities worldwide because of the extensive use of metals, for instance, iron and steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, magnesium, beryllium etc. and their alloys in engineering products. Within the decade preceding 1970, concurrent with the nucleation and growth of new disciplines, came the establishment of the Materials Engineering course. It is closely allied to Metallurgical Engineering but broadens the scope of engineering materials beyond that of metals and their alloys. Materials Engineering is therefore interested in the properties of a wide range of materials including electronic materials, ceramics, glass, polymers and many other natural and man-made materials.
The Materials or Metallurgical Engineer must therefore know how to manufacture and specify the materials for suspension bridges, TV sets, computers, oil refineries, rocket motors, nuclear reactors, supersonic transport vehicles, ocean-going vessels, electricity generating stations, automobiles, telecommunication equipment etc.
Students are therefore adequately exposed to the physics and chemistry of materials: with emphasis on the structure-property relations, the changes in structure and the concomitant property changes realizable through thermal and mechanical treatments. The programme furthermore aims at interlacing the above knowledge with adequate engineering and technology content.

FUTO COURSES: Computer science
Computer science may be a viable alternative for those who are interested in applying mathematics and science toward the solution of technical problems and who enjoy working with computers but do not desire to pursue a career in engineering. Computer science stresses the more theoretical aspects of both computers and computation.
In many instances, the computer science program is part of the school (college) of engineering or the school of engineering and applied science. In this situation, the first year or two of the computer science program may have considerable commonality with the computer engineering program. After that, the two paths diverge, with the computer science program placing more emphasis on data structures involving additional mathematics, programming languages, and other software concepts.
In other situations, the computer science program may be part of another department of the university and have little if any commonality with the computer engineering program.
Entry Requirements:
UTME: Five SSCE credit passes including Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, English Language and any one Science subject.
DIRECT ENTRY: A level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Course Schedule:
Full Time

FUTO courses: Electrical Electronics Engineering
Electrical engineering is a profession that uses science, technology, and problem-solving skills to design, construct, and maintain products, services, and information systems. Electrical engineering is the historical name for what is now called electrical, electronics, and computer engineering.
Typically electrical engineers have earned a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering in areas that include electronics, electrical engineering, or computer engineering. A junior engi- neer may spend the first year or two on the job learning the company's products and design procedures before choosing a technical specialty. Job responsibilities include specification, design, development, and implementation of products or systems, as well as research to create new ideas. This role provides a number of challenges ranging from problem identification and the selection of appropriate technical solutions, materials, test equipment, and procedures, to the manufacture and production of safe, economical, high-performance products and services.
An electrical engineer may choose to couple the technical aspects of a position with management responsibilities. The technical expertise required for management today is increasing because of the explosion of knowledge in engineering, technology, and science.
A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering with a specialty in electrical engineering may also serve as a starting point for careers in many other diverse fields, ranging from business to law, medicine, and politics, since the problem-solving skills acquired in an electrical engineering program provide an extraordinarily valuable asset. The same skills will equip you to assume leadership roles in your community and in professional circles outside the workplace.
In addition to the primary fields of electrical, electronics, and computer engineering, a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering serves as an appropriate base for several allied fields. These include, for example, biomedical engineering, com- puter science, and aerospace engineering.
Here are some typical job titles for engineers:

"Libraries key to research teaching"
She stated this at a workshop organised for postgraduate students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The librarian, who preached the need for specialised information sources, urged the participants to use libraries fully.
Represented by a principal librarian in the university, Dr, Fehintola Onifade, Salaam noted that the workshop would help the participants to access and make use of credible information for teaching, research and community development.
The Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Ololade Enikuomehin, who hailed the selection process of the participants, urged them to endeavour to transfer the knowledge gained to their colleagues.
Meanwhile, Onifade, who doubled as a resource person at the workshop, noted that libraries were instrumental in stimulating learning and advancing the society.
She spoke on the theme "The Role of the Library in Research."
According to her, the university library particularly has numerous books, periodicals and other materials, which would help a researcher in carrying out his/her research.
Noting that there is a link between library and research, she stated that the former remained a learning zone for collection of facts and information for carrying out active intellectual investigation.
Another librarian, Mr. Oyintola Amusa, who spoke on "Literature Review/General Evaluation of Information Sources", said literature review offered information about previous
studies, just as it assisted the researcher to avoid repetitions in further investigations.

JAMB DECIDE CUT-OFF POINT ON JULY 14
Over 1.4 million candidates sat for this year's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in March, using the computer-based Test mode.
A statement by the JAMB Public Relations Officer, Fabian Benjamin, on Monday said the meeting would define the criteria for this year's admission.
He said, "This meeting defines the criteria for the 2015 admission. The cut-off point is arrived at after an extensive deliberation by all stakeholders, which include vice-chancellors, provosts of colleges of education and rectors of polytechnics, monotechnics, innovative enterprise institutions and other stakeholders.
"The exercise is interesting because of the success witnessed with the first full-blown Computer Based Test. The exercise has proved that our education system still has hope. Do not forget that in any educational system, world over, the examination process makes the difference. The goal of national development through education becomes like a mirage if examination bodies get it wrong. Today, the board has got it right."
According to him, JAMB's CBT will also contribute largely to the success of the crusade against corruption, as the fight cannot succeed if examination malpractice continues in the educational system.
Benjamin added that the eradication of malpractice in examinations would go a long way in addressing some of the challenges in the country.
Until the conduct of the full-blown CBT, JAMB had combined it with the option of Paper Pencil Test and Dual Based Test.
The exercise took place for over two weeks in 389 centres in Nigeria and seven foreign centres, including Accra in Ghana, Buea in Republic of Benin, London in United Kingdom, Jeddah in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Johannesburg in South Africa.

FUTO 2015 Admission Advice
FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY OWERRI THIS YEAR.
Now that the FUTO 2015/2016 POST-UTME form is almost at the peak of
commencement, the question is
"How prepared are you for the post-UTME screening exercise?"
This 2015 FUTO post-UTME is Computer based text. CBT and FUTO does not
allow calculator
Any Impersonation or exam malpractice will be dealt with and handed
to the police.
One major cause of failure among students is procrastination; waiting
till the last minute to do what they need to have done. I believe you
have been waiting to here the news before you start preparing for your
post-UTME, but the truth is that you are only plotting your failure.
Let me take a little time to educate you on how this whole thing
works. Majority believe they can easily write and pass FUTO Post-UTME
exams because they passed jamb. It doesn't work that way. There is a
very big difference between UTME and POST-UTME, most especially FUTO
post-UTME. In JAMB, calculators are allowed and questions are set in
line with your secondary school strategy and marking scheme.
But in FUTO Post-UTME, calculators are not allowed and the questions
are not set in line with your secondary school marking scheme For
example, lets assume an answer is "00.45" futo may set answers like A.
0.45 B. 0045 C. 45.00 D. 00.45 so you have to be extra careful in
choosing your answers or leave the question and come back for it
later. But attending our Post utme tutorials will you understand the
nature of FUTO questions.
HOW FUTO CUT-OFF MARKs IS CALCULATED:
FUTO post-UTME cut-off marks are set do to general performance,
however, your Post utme will be added to your JAMB score and divided
by two. E.g. Lets take for instance Petroleum Engineering cut-off mark
is 260 and you score in Jamb 240 plus PUME 280 =480 / divide by 2 is
=260 you will definitely be on the merit list. The result of the above
formula is called the Average score which determines your chance
towards gaining admission in Federal University of Technology Owerri.

* Last year I had about 23 candidates and 80% where admitted, 20%
never took us serious, but those that passed where those who are
prepared for the exam and with our follow ups and logistics and they
where able to gained admission into various department.
Some category of candidates financially buoyant, pay huge amount of
money like N150,000 before they could gain admission, which they could
have avoided with just N5000 if they had attended our tutorials.
however, you don't make hay while the sun shine, you like looking for
miracle at the last minute, when all hope is almost lost. The truth
is; there is no how you can perform excellently well without taking
yourself serious,
